Editorial and classification policy
Read Globe News Alerts' approach to automated classification, location confidence, source attribution, corrections and uncertainty.
Globe News Alerts is primarily an automated news-discovery and event-organisation product. The system classifies stories by their main subject, estimates event geography from available metadata, groups likely duplicate coverage and ranks events using recency, importance and corroboration signals.
Uncertainty
When evidence for an event location is insufficient, the product should display “Location unconfirmed” rather than place a misleading map marker. Nationality is not treated as equivalent to event location.
Corrections
Classification and geolocation rules are continuously regression-tested against known failure cases. Users should rely on the original publisher for the definitive article and latest corrections.
